Global demand for disposable medical supplies will increase by 5.6% annually

According to a recent market survey, the global demand for disposable medical supplies will increase at a rate of 5.6% per year and will reach nearly 164 billion U.S. dollars by 2014.

According to the Cleveland-based Friedonia Group, the fastest-growing areas include diagnostics and laboratory disposables. The annual growth rate is expected to reach 7.1%, and sales in 2014 will approach $22.4 billion. The main products will include blood glucose test strips and other diabetic products, as well as drug delivery devices, catheters and accessories, and dialysis products.

The growth in demand in the Asia-Pacific region will be the strongest, with an annual growth rate of 7.3% between 2009 and 2014—a slight slowdown from the 8% annual growth rate in the region between 2004 and 2009.
